Ruth - Her Name Means "Friendship"

Who can think of a better friend than Ruth? She demonstrated her unselfish love to Naomi in such a beautiful way. The book describes her character is being generous, loyal, and loving. Other adjectives used to describe Ruth are strong, serene, having the ability to take unusual risk, dealing actively with the consequences (Page 136). Not only was Naomi lucky to have such a fine daughter-in-law, as Ruth, but so was Boaz. It was her spirit that attracted her to him. Enough said! What a role model!

Take some time to answer one or all of the following questions:

1. What is Ruth known for? What reputation goes with her to the filed?

2. When Boaz was sleeping at the threshing floor instead of at home, was Ruth's behavior immoral? What was she asking Boaz by her behavior?

3. What does the outcome of this story tell you about God's providence, his divine guidance?

4. Naomi's restored job is described, but nothing is said of Ruth'. In your own words, describe what sort of joy Ruth must have been experiencing.

5. Think about a time in your life when your job was restored.

Ruth was such a special daughter-in-law to have. She loved her husband and his family. I feel this a good lesson for young wives. Always seek to live peaceably with your in laws. Just because world likes to paint an ugly picture of in-law relationships, it doesn't have to be that way. I love my in-laws and we have a wonderful relationship. My mother law teaches me through her actions how to manage my home and love my family.
