The Queen of Sheba

Key Scriptures:1 Kings 10:1-13; Matthew 12:42

Will the real Sheba please stand up! We've studied Bathsheba, Sheba from the tribe of Benjamin (Saul's tribe) whose head was literally cut off and thrown over the wall, and now we have embarked upon the queen of this "fragrant" land that also bears the name Sheba.

Our text states that the Queen of Sheba was a wealthy and influential ruler whose nation dominated the commercial trading in the Middle East. Our text also states that she had a certain measure of wisdom, or at least intelligence, to rule such a country.

1. From everything you read about the Queen of Sheba here, how would you describe her.

2. What does that Queen of Sheba's gift to Solomon tell you about her nation's wealth?

3. What two things about Solomon most impressed the Queen of Sheba?

The Queen of Sheba was curious. She heard about King Solomon and she was fascinated by the stories. She reminds us of what God can do for us. She said the wisdom and glory of Solomon's kingdom was more than she imagined. God can do more than we or anyone else can imagine in our lives. We have let go of the strongholds that Satan places in our lives to keep us down. The stronghold of FEAR. RELEASE IT. The stronghold of PRIDE. RELEASE IT. Let God take these strongholds out your life and live free. People can say of us the same things that the Queen of Sheba said of Solomon. She said "7 How happy your men must be! How happy your officials, who continually stand before you and hear your wisdom! 8 Praise be to the LORD your God, who has delighted in you and placed you on his throne as king to rule for the LORD your God. Because of the love of your God for Israel and his desire to uphold them forever, he has made you king over them, to maintain justice and rghteousness."

TO GOD BE THE GLORY

It's something when God blesses you with so much that it spills over to the people around you.

The queen of Sheba was a wise, wealthy and very powerful woman who just had to see for herself. Her country dominated the commercial trading in the Middle East so she was lacking nothing. Even with her own wealth and intelligence she could not believe by word alone. Roz you know she was curious if she traveled 1500 miles one way (nearly the distance between Charlotte and Dallas Texas), dragging precious gifts on camels to see a man that everyone was ranting and raving about. Not only was the queen curious, some say she also wanted to establish trade agreements as Sheba and Israel were both actively involved in trades. Who better to trade with than King Solomon himself the wisest and wealthiest man alive? You know us women are always thinking ahead. The queen was intrigued by Solomon's wisdom and achievments but she also had a method behind her madness. During this time, gifts were a custom when you visited someone's home. The queen made sure she out did any and everybody.

It just goes to show you how God operates. Solomon prayed for wisdom and God blessed him with more wisdom than any man ever had, other than Jesus. By this wisdom from God, even the pagans recognized. When God blesses you, you not only benefit from Him but the world also rewards you. The queen gave more gifts than we could even imagine and as a result, Solomon in turn gave her what ever she desired. "Fair exchange ain't no robbery" LOL! You go girl!
